Sockets for Nurse Call Systems
Overview
ISL was approached by a current customer, in the healthcare industry, that needed help because two particular ¼” multi-purpose sockets had gone obsolete by the original manufacturers. The customer had been using the incumbent sockets in their proprietary Nurse Call Systems for years. The incumbent sockets were a Curbell 8 pin socket with switch and a Dukane 17 pin socket.
Challenge
Since the customer had been using the incumbent sockets for so long, it was crucial that ISL came up with a drop-in replacement. These particular sockets both incorporate a switch for making and breaking a circuit. The multiple contacts on the sockets allow the Nurse Call Systems to monitor the many functions of a hospital bed.
Solution
ISL reverse engineered and tooled for all components necessary to manufacture both sockets. The tooling was needed to ensure that the sockets were a direct drop-in replacement, which meant that they met the form, fit, and function of the obsoleted sockets.
